The Time Travellers’ Wife

Audrey Niffenegger

If you are bored of your usual choice in books I urge you to pick up a copy of The Time  Travellers’ Wife. Essentially this is a love story between Henry and Clare, but it is also very much set in a fantasy world that is strange but yet intriguing. If fantasy is not your usual pick of reading genres, I would still urge you to give this book a try, you might be pleasantly surprised.
Henry is a time traveller. Without will and without much warning he suddenly disappears leaving behind a pile of cloths, only to reaper at other time in his past or his future. This is how he meets Clare, his wife. The first time Clare meets Henry, Clare is only six years old, and Henry is thirty six. The first time Henry meets Clare, Clare is twenty and Henry is twenty eight. The story follows Clare and Henry as they meet; fall in love and attempt to live a normal life, which is far from normal at all.
The concept is confusing at the start of the book but Niffenegger’s way with words makes it easy enough to follow and understand the time travelling side of things, and make it seem very real at the same time. The love storey between Clare and Henry is your classically typical ‘undying and enduring’ type. I found this an easy and enjoyable read and would recommend it as an easy summer read. If you are after a big hearty ‘can’t-put-it-down’ novel, this might not be what your after.
The Time Traveller’s Wife has also been made into a movie which is out in cinemas now.
